Super Falcons’ Excess Players Get Ray Of Hope For Game Time In Next Fixture Versus Morocco

Players who turned up at the Nigerian female national team, Super Falcons’ camp for the 2028 Olympic Games qualifier against Comoros but could not feature in both games, have received hope of better opportunities in the next round.

Sports247 reports that the ray of hope comes from a declaration by the Falcons’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, who admitted that expanding the list of invitees from 23 to 27 meant some of the players would not get to feature in any of the games.

The Super Eagles’ former defender, captain and head coach disclosed that he felt lots of sympathy for those among the invitees who did not play in any of the two qualifiers that took place at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Among those who did not get minutes of action during the two games – which the Falcons won 2-0 on Friday and 5-0 this past Tuesday – were Joy Omewa, Shakirat Moshood and Blessing Nkor, but Eguavoen said he personally spoke to them to explain the situation of things.

Eguavoen, who is also currently the technical director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), went on to raise hope of opportunities for the unused players in the next round fixtures against Morocco and assured that none of them would be intentionally left out in the scheme of things.

“We invited 23 players and ended up with 27. Most of them didn’t get to feel the game. I have spoken to those ones who didn’t get involved in these two games that they have to come for the next games to be given the chance.

“I don’t owe them explanations, but I had to do it for the sake of being professional. I think, sometimes, it is good that we understand ourselves and that we are on the same page,” Eguavoen assured.
