The Washington Commanders ruined their own chance at victory by committing an inexcusable error in overtime that led to a tie and some angry reactions.
Tied at 27-27, and with both teams having had one possession, the Commanders simply needed to kick a field goal at any time to beat the New York Giants and move to 2-3 on the season.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn simply chose not to do that at all. Even with his team in field goal range, quarterback Jayden Daniels completed a 13-yard pass to Treylon Burks to set up on the 26-yard-line as the clock ticked under a minute.
Inexplicably, instead of simply sending his field goal unit out, the Commanders ran another play. Then, they continued to run the clock down from 55 seconds before running yet another play, where Daniels ran the ball, scampered around scared, and then was tackled with eight seconds remaining.
Daniels didn’t get up in time, the Commanders didn’t get set in time, the ball wasn’t downed in time and the clock expired – giving both teams a frustrating tie that they simply could have avoided.
As the crowd at Northwest Stadium stood stunned over the result, Commanders veteran lineman Sam Cosmi spiked his helmet on the ground in anger.
The Washington Commanders gifted the New York Giants a tie after their atrocious play calling and execution in overtime that ended on a Jayden Daniels sack before time expired

Commanders lineman Sam Cosmi was apoplectic, screaming ‘What the f*** are we doing?’

Fans are now calling for head coach Dan Quinn to be fired as Washington falls to 1-3-1
Cosmi walked off the field in a rage and was seen yelling to someone: ‘What the f*** are we doing?’ before kicking a pylon and going down the tunnel.
It was a truly baffling play call for two teams that made many mistakes throughout the game.
On the first drive in overtime, Giants kicker Dominic Zvada missed a 46-yard field goal wide right to mark his third missed field goal of the day.
After the Commanders punted, the Giants got the ball back and marched it to the Washington 24. Instead of giving Zvada a chance at redemption, the Giants felt the need to go for a touchdown.
Just after the two-minute warning, Giants running back Cam Skattebo fumbled the football in the rainy weather to give the Commanders one final shot at the win.
But despite kicker Drew Stevens being a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals for the day, the Commanders didn’t turn to him to try and seal the win. Instead, after the pass to Burks – putting Washington on the 26-yard-line to set up a 36-yard field goal – the Commanders ran one more play, gaining two yards.
Rather than end the game there, fans witnessed the horrible play call by Quinn and the tragic execution by Daniels, which left Washington with a 1-3-1 record on the season.
Fans are now calling for Quinn to be fired as the Commanders stare down the barrel of another lost season. Washington travels to the Bay Area next week to play the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
