Rangers target Oskar Fallenius has admitted that he has held contract extension talks with Djurdarden amid rumours that he may depart the club as a free agent at the end of this year.

The Swedish winger’s current contract is due to expire at the end of December and it’s understood that he could leave on a Bosman deal, with Rangers believed to be among his suitors after failing to finalise a transfer before the end of the 2026 summer window.

Fallenius has scored four goals and provided three assists in 23 games so far this season, and he is yet to make a final decision on whether to finalise fresh terms with Djurdarden or look to depart the club when his current deal ends.

Last month, the 24-year-old confirmed that he wanted to explore a possible exit, although he has now admitted that contract negotiations have taken place with sporting director Maximilian Hahn.

An exit still seems like his most likely next step, but he has refused to rule out the possibility of extending his spell with the Allsvenskan outfit beyond this year.

What has Oskar Fallenius said?

“We’ve talked. That’s true. I think Maximilian and I have had a pretty good dialogue over a couple of weeks and months. But I think we’ll keep it pretty internal,” Fallenius told the Swedish media (via The Daily Record).

“I never rule anything out. It’s a very, very nice club that I’m quite close to. It’s all about finding something that suits me.

“The contract is expiring and I may have ambitions to move to higher leagues. But we won’t know until after the end of the year. Above all, I should feel that there is a clear goal for me here.

“I have been here for four years now and especially this year there have been quite a few changes. I should feel that it suits me in terms of football as well, not just for love of the club.”

After missing out on a deal for Fallenius over the summer, Rangers instead strengthened their attacking unit with the signings of Kevin Kelsy, Min-su Kim, Daisuke Yokota, Lawrence Shankland and Badredine Bouanani (loan), and they are currently two points behind league leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.
