Everton owners The Friedkin Group (TFG) are exploring the sale of the club less than two years after taking control.
The American group completed a takeover of the club in 2024 in a deal believed to be worth in excess of £400m.
According to BBC Sport TFG, in a statement, said after prioritising stability, investment and the opening of Everton’s new stadium last year, the time is right “to consider the next chapter”.
“The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest,” TFG said.
“When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch. The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the club’s future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters.
“With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the Club forward and build on the momentum that has been established.

“Throughout this process, TFG’s focus will remain unchanged. We will support the Club in all ways necessary to achieve success on the pitch and will continue efforts to make a positive difference in the communities the Club serves.
“TFG and the Club will not be commenting further while this work is under way.”
Founded in 1878, the Everton was a founding member of the English Football League in 1888, and was a founding member of the Premier League in 1992, one of just three clubs to have been a founding member of both leagues.
The Toffees are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in England, having won fifteen major trophies: nine football league titles, five FA Cups and one European Cup Winners’ Cup.
The Merseyside club won their first League Championship during the 1890–91 season. After winning four more League championships and two FA Cups, the club experienced a post–Second World War lull until a revival in the 1960s.
A period of sustained success came in the mid-1980s, when Everton won a further two League championships, one FA Cup and the 1985 European Cup Winners’ Cup. The club’s most recent major trophy was the 1995 FA Cup.
