NLO Cup 2026 Kick Off Put On Hold For One Week, Due To Incomplete Renovation Of Match Venues

Ongoing renovations of various match venues across the country have put on hold the much-expected third-tier Nationwide Leagie One (NLO) Cup by one week, Sports247 reports.

As against the initial plan to commence the remodelled and expanded competition this Saturday on a home and away basis, action will now begin in the NLO Cup 2026 on Saturday, October 17th.

This was revealed in a press statement by the NLO, which confirmed a one-week adjustment to the commencement in the kick-off date, to allow for additional logistics, maintenance at some venues, completion of registration and other administrative requirements by participating clubs.

The statement added, “In a revised notification issued to all participating clubs, the Secretariat explained that the extension was made in the overall interest of the competition and is intended to ensure that all necessary arrangements are concluded ahead of the tournament.

“The NLO further confirmed that the official match fixtures will be released no later than Tuesday, October 13, 2026, allowing clubs sufficient time to make the necessary preparations for their respective matches.

“The Secretariat acknowledged that the change in date may have an impact on the logistical arrangements, travel plans and technical preparations of participating clubs; but the decision was taken to guarantee a seamless, competitive and successful tournament.”

Sports247 reports further that the NLO also appealed to all participating clubs to continue with their preparations towards the new date, as the competition is expected to provide more opportunities for clubs and emerging talents in the country.
