“It’s a Big Moment for Me and My Family” — Aderemi Adeoye Ready to Seize Super Eagles Chance Against Russia

Ikorodu City midfielder Aderemi Adeoye has described his latest Super Eagles invitation as a major moment for himself and his family, with the 19-year-old determined to make the most of another opportunity in Eric Chelle’s squad ahead of Nigeria’s international friendly against Russia.

Adeoye is one of three Nigeria Premier Football League players selected for the October 6 encounter at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, alongside Ikorodu City teammate Michael Atata and Rangers defender Kenneth Igboke.

The midfielder revealed that he was at home when his brother called to inform him that his name had appeared on the Super Eagles list.

For Adeoye, the news represented another important step in a rapidly developing career.

“I’m very happy about the call-up. It is a big moment for me and my family,” he said, adding that his focus is now on joining the national team and making the opportunity count.

Although the Russia selection represents another significant breakthrough, Adeoye is not completely new to Chelle’s plans. He was invited for the Unity Cup in London in May, where he received a brief taste of senior international football. A more substantial appearance against Russia would provide another opportunity to establish himself within the Super Eagles setup.

His latest invitation has also arrived during an encouraging spell at club level.

Adeoye joined Ikorodu City in January 2026 and scored once in nine league appearances during the second half of last season. Last weekend, he strengthened his case for greater recognition by scoring a spectacular sixth-minute free-kick as Ikorodu City defeated defending NPFL champions Rangers 2-0. It was his first league goal of the current campaign.

The midfielder has also continued to impress in Ikorodu City’s engine room, including their recent goalless encounter with Sporting Lagos.

Chelle has deliberately selected a significantly changed squad for Russia, retaining only a handful of players from the AFCON qualifying group while opening the door to several newcomers. The NFF confirmed that the friendly is designed around a squad containing numerous players entering the senior-team environment for the first time.

That makes the match particularly important for Adeoye and the other domestic-based invitees.

For the Ikorodu City youngster, the journey from the NPFL to the Super Eagles door has already begun — Russia now offers another chance to show he belongs on the other side of it.
