An Auburn University staffer has been arrested for allegedly stealing the athletic department’s trade secrets through computer tampering and then sharing that information with rivals.
David Rudolph Jenrath, 24, of Franklin, Tennessee was arrested Monday on charges of theft of trade secrets and computer tampering, according to Auburn Police.
The alleged incident took place on the 300 block of South Donahue Drive in Auburn, which happens to be where the athletic department is located.
‘A business reported that sensitive information was stolen from the business and distributed to their competitors,’ read the police press release. ‘The business reported that one of their competitors received the information and turned it over to them.’
Jenrath turned himself in to the Auburn Police Department before being arrested and transported to Lee County Jail, where he was held on $15,000 bond.
Court filings obtained by WSFA.com allege that Jenrath stole ‘confidential proprietary information consisting of Auburn University Athletics information’ without consent.

He allegedly did this by tampering with computer systems ‘with the intent to harass Auburn University Athletics by disclosing…to their opponents,’ according to those court filings.
The recipients of Jenrath’s alleged intel have not been identified.
Jenrath is no longer listed on the Lee County Jail inmate roster.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Jenrath for comment. Auburn officials declined to comment when contacted by The Daily Mail.
Jenrath served as one of Auburn’s player personnel scouting assistants from January 2026 through June 2026, according to his since-deleted LinkedIn profile. The job description claimed he focused on running backs and special teams, according to USA Today.
That same profile claimed Jenrath is currently studying at Auburn’s SEC rival, Tennessee, which happens to be Auburn’s next opponent.
Jenrath did not work long with the Tigers athletic department. According to USA Today, he received at least five payments of $535 from the Auburn University Controller’s Office between September and December of 2025.
