Akwa United have named defender Charles Etim as captain ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles defender takes over from Ubong Essien, who has joined Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Katsina United.
Etim, who served as an assistant captain last season, will now lead the team’s leadership group as Akwa United prepare for the new campaign.
He will be supported by three other players: Flying Eagles defender Somto Nnoli, 2025/2026 Akwa United/Ibom Air Player of the Season Paulinus Okon, and goalkeeper Okechukwu Johnson.
Coach Paul Offor-tutored Akwa United will begin their 2026/2027 NNL campaign against Ekiti United on Sunday, 8 November, at the Uyo Township Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm. The Promise Keepers will be hoping to start the season on a winning note as they push for promotion to the NPFL.
