Man United interested in Barcelona star Fermin Lopez as they look to bolster attack after Benjamin Sesko injury blow

Manchester United have shown an interest in Barcelona’s attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez as they look to add to their goalscoring options in the next transfer window.

The Spain international, 23, is rated in the £70million bracket and is also coveted by Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea after netting five times for the Catalans this season.

Lopez was ruled out of last summer’s World Cup triumph with a foot injury. However, he has long had admirers at Old Trafford, even if there is an acknowledgement that United’s finances may be an issue.

The club have been linked with Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this week, a player they looked at but didn’t move for during his last year at Everton.

United fear their Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko could be out until at least January with a shin injury and desperately need cover for the 23-year-old, as manager Michael Carrick is left without a recognised centre-forward.

Daily Mail Sport understands a move for Calvert-Lewin is viewed as difficult given the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

Calvert-Lewin has revitalised his career at Leeds after joining on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, following an injury-plagued end to his time at Everton.

The England striker is also believed to be discussing a new deal at Elland Road, such has been his impact. The 29-year-old has scored 20 goals in 49 appearances for Leeds, including five in ten games at the start of this season.

United will also look at defenders in January if any spare funds are found.
