University of Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis is recovering after being hospitalized due to a medical emergency sustained in practice.
The news, announced by Lewis’s father, was revealed on Thursday – the day after the undisclosed emergency occurred at the Buffaloes’ practice facility.
Lewis was promptly brought to the hospital and has already begun the recovery process.
‘He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support,’ T Carlton Lewis wrote in a statement posted on X.
‘Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy. We will have no further comment at this time.’
Neither the University of Colorado, nor the school’s football program, have made a public statement as of the time of publication.

Lewis, a sophomore, started the first four games of the season for CU under head coach Deion Sanders. So far this year, he has completed 61-of-95 passes for 733 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. He also has a rushing touchdown.
After scraping by with a 14-13 win over Georgia Tech and dominating Weber State in the first two games of the season, Lewis struggled in road games against Northwestern and Baylor.
He was then benched in the middle of that game for junior Isaac Wilson, who has started each game since.
Wilson has not fared much better. He has lost all three of his starts since taking over as the Buffaloes sink to 2-5 on the season and 0-4 in Big XII play.
Sanders previously hinted that he was open to handing the reins of the offense back to Lewis if things with Wilson did not improve.
‘That’s on him,’ Sanders told reporters on Tuesday. ‘I don’t think you could find a player in this program — or you may could find some bitter players that have left and didn’t want to leave, but life is what it is — but I don’t treat people unfairly. I don’t play games with young men and their careers and hate on folks.
‘If I’m anything, I’m too forgiving and very, very kind. You can ask that gentleman [punter Damon Greaves] over there; I don’t play those games with kids. You’ve got to always understand that we may know a little more than you do, because we’re inside the locker room. We’re there. We understand what happens.’
Colorado will host Kansas State this Saturday at noon.
