Travis Kelce has admitted he understood why Prince William wanted to move him out of a selfie he took with Taylor Swift and his two children at the Eras Tour in 2024.
The Prince of Wales, 44, was a surprise guest on The Graham Norton Show last week, and said that he wasn’t aware that at the time Swift was yet to make her relationship with NFL star Kelce Instagram official.
William posed for a selfie with Swift, Prince George and Princess Charlotte after attending her Eras Tour concert at Wembley, and admitted he was bemused at the time why Kelce was so keen to be in the photo.
Addressing Prince William’s comments on this week’s episode of New Heights, Kelce told his older brother Jason that he completely understood.
‘I get it, man,’ the Kansas City Chiefs tight end said. ‘I was just a boyfriend at that point. I wasn’t her husband yet.’
He added Prince William probably thought, ‘We don’t really know if this is going to last, so can you just kind of move out of the way really quick? So we can keep this photo forever?’

His Royal Highness earned praise from viewers for his surprise appearance on the chat show.
As Norton recalled the Eras Tour photo, he asked whether Prince William was aware of the significance of Taylor’s post.
‘I wasn’t until recently,’ William said. ‘I hadn’t appreciated the significance, and actually – I was trying to move him out of the photo!’
‘Travis kept coming back in, and I couldn’t work out why he kept coming back in.’
The Kelce brothers hosted Prince William on New Heights back in the summer after striking up a friendship with him at the Eras Tour show in 2024.
Travis went on to admit that both he and Jason were wracked with nerves over meeting the Royal Family, revealing they were petrified of breaking protocol.
‘That was honestly one of the coolest moments ever was meeting you and the little ones that day,’ he added. ‘Me and Jason joke about it all the time.
‘We were so nervous to meet you guys and the royal family. And Jason has this running joke where he didn’t know what to do with his beer.’
‘It wasn’t a joke. It was real,’ Jason insisted. ‘I don’t know what. Well, you want to be respectful and know what the protocols of course. No, it was awesome. And you were fantastic. The kids were great.
‘Princess Charlotte was still the highlight for me. I have four daughters as well, so she was great.’
Prince William also previously joked that he was ‘hoping’ to get an invite to Swift and Kelce’s star-studded wedding at Madison Square Garden in July.
