Nigeria’s U15 national team, the Future Eagles, have recorded their second consecutive draw at the inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, following a 2-2 stalemate against Jordan in their second fixture.
Sports247 reports that the Nigerian youngsters, who opened their campaign with an entertaining 3-3 draw against South Sudan on Saturday, were again unable to secure maximum points despite finding the back of the net twice.
The latest result leaves Nigeria with two draws from their opening two matches, having scored five goals and conceded five. Nigeria’s ability to score five goals in two matches highlights the attacking potential within the squad.
However, conceding an equal number of goals has prevented the Future Eagles from registering their first victory. Against Jordan on Sunday morning, the Nigerian side continued their search for a breakthrough result but had to settle for another share of the spoils.
The result followed Saturday’s six-goal thriller against South Sudan, where both teams scored three times. While the attacking output provides encouragement, the defensive record suggests that greater organisation and concentration will be required in subsequent fixtures.
The Future Eagles face a demanding schedule as they continue their participation in the international youth football festival.
Nigeria will return to action on Sunday evening against fellow West African side The Gambia, hoping to secure their first victory of the competition.
The team will then face Cyprus early on Monday morning before concluding their scheduled matches against Pakistan later that afternoon.
With three fixtures remaining on their programme, the Nigerian youngsters have opportunities to improve their results and build confidence.
The coaching staff will also be looking to address the defensive shortcomings identified during the opening encounters. The inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival is being played under an eight-a-side format, with each match consisting of two 20-minute halves.
The competition provides a platform for young footballers to gain international exposure, experience different playing styles and develop their technical abilities.
For Nigeria, participation represents another opportunity to strengthen the development pathway for emerging football talents.
Although the Future Eagles are still searching for their first victory, their five goals in two matches demonstrate attacking promise.
The challenge now is to improve defensively and turn encouraging performances into victories against The Gambia, Cyprus and Pakistan.
