“We Must Carry This Momentum Forward” — Akachukwu Urges YellowGreens After Nine-Wicket Win Over Zambia

Nigeria’s YellowGreens captain Chima Akachukwu has urged his teammates to maintain their winning momentum at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C following their emphatic nine-wicket victory over Zambia in Abuja.

The result marked Nigeria’s second consecutive victory in the six-nation competition, strengthening their bid to secure one of the two available places in the next stage of qualification for the 2028 T20 World Cup.

Akachukwu praised the team’s performance but acknowledged that improvements were still necessary as the tournament progressed.

“I think overall the guys did well. Just a little bit of, you know, hiccups here and there, and I’m sure the guys will pick it up from where we left it,” he said.

“There’s a lot to pick from the game and to learn from.”

The captain believes Nigeria have the quality to sustain their strong start but warned against allowing minor mistakes to become recurring problems.

He urged his teammates to remain committed to the approach that has delivered victories in their opening two matches.

“We just encourage them to do what they’ve been doing and don’t change what they’ve been doing,” Akachukwu stated.

“It’s been working for us.”

Nigeria’s next assignment is against Mozambique on Friday, October 23, before fixtures against Lesotho on Saturday and Uganda on Sunday conclude their round-robin campaign.

With only the top two teams progressing to the Africa Regional Final, consistency across the remaining matches will be crucial.

Akachukwu believes the team must build on its current form rather than become distracted by the prospect of qualification.

“Just carry the same momentum from this game into the next game and onto the next one,” he urged.

The YellowGreens will be aiming to extend their winning run against Mozambique and move closer to securing qualification from the Abuja tournament.
