Colts QB Anthony Richardson charged with marijuana possession after being pulled over by cops

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been charged with marijuana possession following a traffic stop in Indiana.

According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, the misdemeanor charge was officially filed against the 24-year-old on Monday, October 19.

The incident reportedly unfolded on October 12 in Carmel, Indiana, when officers initiated a traffic stop on a black 2023 Dodge Charger.

Police noted in court filings that the vehicle was traveling with expired license plates registered to a different car.

After Richardson pulled over to the side of the road, the officer reported immediately noticing the ‘odor of marijuana’ coming from the vehicle.

When questioned about the smell, Richardson reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana inside the car to avoid doing so in front of his children.

The quarterback also told the officer that he had a small amount of marijuana inside the Charger, according to court documents.

Richardson was instructed to exit the vehicle and was placed in handcuffs while police carried out a search of the car.

During the search, the officer discovered a small mason jar containing suspected marijuana, along with an opened bag of THC-infused gummies.

Field tests later confirmed that both substances tested positive for THC, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The officer issued Richardson a traffic citation for the expired registration, and the NFL passer agreed to appear in Carmel City Court for a summons.

Richardson waived his initial court hearing, which was originally slated for December 9, according to online court records.

A bench trial in the misdemeanor case has now been scheduled to take place on January 4, 2027.

The Colts have not yet released a public statement regarding Richardson’s charge or his status with the team.
