After winning their first Premier League title for 22 years in 2025-26, Arsenal have reclaimed their status as one of the best teams in the world under Mikel Arteta.
Arteta has transformed the Gunners since his arrival in December 2019, removing the toxicity which engulfed the club towards the end of Arsene Wenger’s premiership.
While the Spaniard is rightly credited as the catalyst behind Arsenal’s recent rise, the Spaniard has received financial backing from owner Stan Kroenke.
Formerly owned by descendants of the Bracewell-Smith and Hill-Wood families, Kroenke acquired a controlling stake in Arsenal in 2011, before taking full ownership of the club in 2018.
The American businessman hasn’t always spent big in the transfer market, but his financial backing has increased since becoming the full owner of Arsenal.
Here, FootballTransfers studies how much Arsenal have spent since Kroenke took over.
How much have Arsenal spent on transfers under Kroenke?
Arsenal have spent a total of €2.67 billion on transfers since Kroenke took over in 2011.
His first major signing after becoming the majority shareholder was Gervinho, although Arsenal sold Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy in his first transfer window in charge.
Arsenal spent relatively little over the next couple of years as the club managed the debts they incurred following the construction of the Emirates Stadium.
However, following the appointment of Arteta, Kroenke has loosened the purse strings in recent years, spending over €200m in three successive seasons between 2023 and 2026.
| Season | Total Spend |
|---|---|
| 2011-12 | €67m |
| 2012-13 | €56m |
| 2013-14 | €48.6m |
| 2014-15 | €119.2m |
| 2015-16 | €31.9m |
| 2016-17 | €116.5m |

| 2024-25 | €108.9m |
| 2025-26 | €294.6m |
| 2026-27 | €227.1m |
Arsenal broke their transfer record when they signed England international Declan Rice from West Ham United for €116.6m in the summer of 2023.
After acquiring Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for €43.7m in the summer of 2024, the 14-time league champions broke the bank again the following summer.
Arsenal made four €50m+ signings in the summer of 2025, capturing Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.
And following their Premier League title win in 2025-26, Arteta was then backed with another €227.1m spend in the summer of 2026.
Kroenke whipped out his chequebook as Arsenal signed Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa, while the club also pursued expensive deals for Julian Alvarez and Vinicius Junior.
Who are Arsenal’s most expensive signings under Kroenke?
The most expensive signing made under Kroenke is Rice, with Arsenal beating Manchester City to his signature in the summer of 2023.
Arsenal’s second most expensive signing under Kroenke is Guimaraes, who joined the club from Newcastle United for €87.5m in the summer of 2026.
Before Arteta joined Arsenal, Kroenke backed former manager Unai Emery with the €80m signing of Nicolas Pepe in the summer of 2019.
However, Emery famously never wanted Pepe but rather the Spaniard pushed for Arsenal to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace instead.
Arsenal’s fourth most expensive signing under Kroenke is Kai Havertz, who arrived from London rivals Chelsea for €75m in the summer of 2023.
And the fifth most expensive transfer Arsenal have completed under Kroenke involves Zubimendi, who joined from Real Sociedad for €70m in the summer of 2025.
