Jalen Hurts dealing with 'very unique' injury as Philadelphia Eagles QB adds to mystery over his health

Jalen Hurts is among 24 Philadelphia Eagles players currently listed on their lengthy injury report.

And he added more mystery to the situation surrounding his condition when quizzed on Wednesday as he shared he has a ‘very unique’ injury.

Hurts was listed as a full participant with a calf injury last Friday, two days before losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

He was never downgraded to questionable or doubtful and had no injury designation for the game but remains on the latest injury report as a full participant with a calf injury this week.

And while there is no indication he will miss time, Hurts did little to shed light on the extent or nature of his discomfort when speaking to the media in his midweek press conference.

‘It was a very unique experience, to say the least,’ Hurts said. ‘I don’t want to get into the details of kind of leading up to the game and whatnot, but got nicked up in the Rams game.’

His comments raised more questions than answers, particularly given he was not added to the injury report until nearly a week after the Rams game where he said he ‘got nicked up.’

Hurts is far from the biggest concern for the Eagles and their injury situation, though head coach Nick Sirianni said he is ‘hopeful’ Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith will return this weekend against the Carolina Panthers.

Discussing their injury crisis earlier this month, Sirianni said: ‘This is life in the NFL, and we will do the things that we can control to put ourselves in the best position to win against a very good football team.

‘You will never hear me use anything as an excuse. Our job is to go handle the things that we can control, tough, detailed and together, and put ourselves in the best position to win this upcoming week.’

Hurts, meanwhile, knows he is in a situation where he has a lot to prove with his supporting cast severely depleted.

Before Sunday’s Jaguars loss, Hurts said: ‘This is when you find out what you have. You find out who you’re going out there to battle with.

‘You see how you respond to adversity, how you show up to work every day, what’s your energy, what’s your level of persistence and resilience and determination to go out there and do the job.’
