Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has expressed confidence that Ademola Lookman will rediscover his best form following a difficult start to the 2026/27 season, Completesports.com reports.
The Nigeria international has scored just once in nine appearances across all competitions this season.
Lookman was substituted at half-time during Atlético Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Alavés last weekend, prompting further questions about his current form.
Simeone Backs Lookman
However, Simeone believes the winger is experiencing a temporary dip and remains confident in his ability to return to his best.

“Every player goes through their own phases. Obviously, I don’t think there’s a player who can maintain a level of ten all the time,” the Argentine was quoted by Into The Calderon.
“There’s always a dip, and it’s clear that Ademola Lookman is going through a phase where he’s not performing as he’d like to and as we’d like to see him, because he’s shown us what he’s capable of. But he works every day to become that player, the dribbler.”
Confidence Key To Overcoming Struggles
The Atlético boss also urged Lookman not to allow his recent struggles to affect his confidence, stressing the importance of continuing to take risks and work hard on the pitch.
“He needs to keep dribbling, he needs to lose the ball, he needs to keep pushing forward, because he’ll do well, because he’s got what it takes and because he’s a goalscorer,” Simeone added.
Simeone’s comments underline his belief in Lookman’s quality and attacking instincts, despite the winger’s struggles in front of goal this season.
