Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell has received widespread praise for his sportsmanship after losing to Georgia on Saturday night.
The Crimson Tide lost for the first time this season, going down 20-17 in a controversial game marred by a series of missed calls.
Gunner Stockton led the Bulldogs to their first regular-season win over Alabama since 2007 in an unforgettable night at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
There were chaotic scenes after the game as Alabama fans threw trash onto the field and Georgia players fled to the locker room after celebrating, while Stockton gave his post-game interview on ABC/ESPN.
Despite his own personal disappointment, Russell was filmed waiting patiently for several minutes for Stockton to finish his interview so he could personally congratulate his rival quarterback.
According to On3, the two quarterbacks had never met before, and Russell insisted on waiting even after the rest of his team had left the field and an Alabama staffer told him to head to the locker room.

The gesture was appreciated by Stockton, who said after the game: ‘He was awesome.
‘I’ve tried to do better with that, trying to go shake the other quarterback’s hand no matter what. Seeing that at a younger age is pretty special.’
ESPN sideline reporter Laura Rutledge reacted to the clip on social media and wrote: ‘I love this. Two GREAT QBs who I believe will be in the playoff… and could very well meet again!’
Fellow ESPN host Kevin Negandhi added: ‘Much respect for Keelon. And I don’t think this will be the last time they face each other. Last night was a classic.’
Another user responded: ‘This was an absolute class act by Alabama’s QB. This kid will be really good and a future first round pick.’
A further comment read: ‘This is respect, leaving it all on the field and then still hanging around to congratulate your opposition after a crushing defeat. Russell is going to be special for years to come!’.
Russell had 185 passing yards, 41 rushing yards and a touchdown in a tough game against Georgia and took blame for the loss.
‘I got to execute at a higher level,’ Russell said. ‘I did not play my best game tonight. Countless throws that I missed. I just got to be better.

Stockton and Georgia celebrated their first regular season win over Alabama since 2007
‘No, they didn’t show anything that I didn’t expect. Everything that they did show, we watched film, understood the assignment. Like I said, I just have to play better.’
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart had high praise for the Alabama quarterback, adding: ‘There’s no such thing as containing Russell.
‘That kid is an elite athlete, an elite player. Hopefully we affected him some tonight, and he didn’t have some of the numbers he’s had [previously]. But he’s going to be hell in this league for two years.’
