Arizona Cardinals are trading away Marvin Harrison Jr… but wide receiver's new team remains a mystery

The Arizona Cardinals are trading away Marvin Harrison Jr., just over two years after drafting him with the No. 4 overall pick.

While his destination has not yet emerged, the Cardinals have informed the wide receiver he will not play against the Detroit Lions on Sunday because a deal has been finalized.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted on X that the teams involved would ‘prefer the trade destination is not announced’ until after their games on Sunday are played.

Among the leading contenders for Harrison Jr.’s signature are believed to be the Houston Texans, who have started 0-4, and lost Jayden Higgins to an ACL injury in training camp.

The Texans are keen to hand quarterback C.J. Stroud more firepower and he was teammate’s with Harrison Jr. at Ohio State.

Speculation in recent days has suggested the Cardinals are hoping to secure a package of picks for Harrison Jr., including a second rounder.

Harrison Jr. has had a limited role in the first four games under new head coach Mike LaFleur and has been mooted as a possible trade candidate for weeks.

He scored his first touchdown of the season in last week’s defeat by the New York Giants on a 12-yard catch but he has largely been in the shadow of fellow receiver Michael Wilson and tight end Trey McBride.

The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Marvin Harrison, the 24-year-old only has five catches for 85 yards and one touchdown so far this season.
