A Mexican wrestler has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter or negligent homicide after a stunt went horribly wrong and killed a referee during an event.
The pro wrestler, known as Hijo De Fishman, was arrested in Mineral de la Reforma in Hidalgo after referee Gerardo German Pineda, known as El Buho, died on Wednesday night.
According to reports, Hijo De Fishman performed a pre-planned ‘piledriver’ move on Pineda, 75, as part of a skit following his match against a rival at the ‘Deslealtades’ event.
But the move on Pineda, a 15-year wrestling veteran, went horribly wrong and he was left motionless on the floor.
Pineda lay on the floor unattended for several minutes because those inside the area assumed he was feigning injury as a result of the planned move.
When paramedics finally arrived, Pineda was pronounced dead and Fishman was then arrested on suspicion of manslaughter or negligent homicide.

According to Superluchas, a hearing is scheduled to take place in the next 48 hours to decide if Fishman will be released or charged.
If he is found guilty of manslaughter, he could be facing a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
El Patron Espectaculos, the promotion behind the ‘Deslealtades’ event, later said in a statement they are helping Hijo De Fishman with ‘legal assistance.’
The company said: ‘We are attentive to the developing situation and have arranged accompaniment and legal assistance for Hijo De Fishman, so that the corresponding process is carried out in accordance with the law and before the competent authorities.
‘The lawyer and legal representative of the company maintains contact with the family of Mr. Gerardo Germán Pineda, “El Buho”, and with his legal representatives, to handle the case in the best way and guarantee respect for all parties involved.
‘The legal process is still ongoing, so, out of respect for the authorities and due process, this company will refrain from issuing additional information that could interfere with or prejudice the facts.
‘We ask the fans, media and members of the guild to act with prudence, discretion and respect, and avoid the spread of rumors or unconfirmed information, so as not to hinder the investigations and out of respect for all parties involved and their families.
‘We deeply regret the loss of a life and express our solidarity with his family, friends and colleagues in the wrestling business.’
