Former US Open golf champion Corey Pavin has announced his wife Lisa’s cancer ‘never went away completely’ and she has had to return to hospital.
Pavin, who won the 1995 US Open at Shinnecock Hills, revealed in February that Lisa, 52, had completed her final round of chemotherapy.
But, on Tuesday, Pavin announced on Instagram that she had to undergo a cell-based gene therapy as part of treatment. He has not disclosed the type of cancer Lisa is battling.
‘Seven plus months ago, I posted that @lisap0810 had her last chemotherapy,’ Pavin, 66, captioned a post. ‘We found out a couple months ago that her cancer never went away completely.
‘Over the last two months and after multiple visits to the Mayo Clinic, Lisa is getting her CAR-T infusion today. We are hoping and praying that this will kick her cancer’s a**!
‘The emotional and physical toll fighting cancer is immense, and I’m so proud of Lisa’s courage, attitude and perseverance! And much gratitude to all of Lisa’s friends who have reached out to her for your prayers and support which has helped more than you will ever know!’

As well as the update on her health, Pavin posted a number of pictures of Lisa on Instagram

The couple also recently dropped off their 18-year-old daughter Alexis off at college
CAR T therapy stands for chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy. It is a type of immunotherapy that uses the immune system to kill cancerous cells.
Along with the update, Pavin shared several photos of his smiling wife in her hospital bed. They also shared an embrace while on a private jet together.
Pavin and Lisa married in 2003 and share an 18-year-old daughter Alexis.
Back in September, Pavin shared a picture of him and Lisa dropping Alexis off before her first day at college in California.
He wrote: ‘@alexispavin, tomorrow is your first day of college!! We are so proud of you and the young woman you have become!
‘We are sure you are going to thrive out in Cali. We will miss your love, wit, “charm”, and your unique (and wonderful) personality! And most of all, we will miss you. We love you more than you will ever know!’
Amid Lisa’s battle, Pavin has still been playing competitive golf and took part in the Sanford International at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota last month. He finished 21 shots behind eventual winner Zach Johnson.
