A sensational new report from Spain has claimed that Liverpool have made contact with Kylian Mbappe’s representatives over a world record transfer due to the Frenchman feeling ‘unwanted’ at Real Madrid.
Mbappe has been a key player for Madrid since joining the club on a free transfer in 2024 but there have been recent suggestions that tensions may be growing between the 27-year-old and manager Jose Mourinho after a social media post during the international break.
Liverpool had come close to signing Mbappe as a youngster and reporter Francois Gallardo told Defensa Central that the forward’s ‘priority’ is to move to Anfield as he doesn’t feel ‘loved or supported’ in the Real Madrid dressing room.
Gallardo also suggested any deal could cost up to €250 million, with Liverpool already alleged to have contacted Mbappe’s mother and agent, Fayza Lamari, over a move.
“Several Premier League teams are interested in Kylian Mbappé, but the player’s priority is Liverpool. They have already contacted Lamari in recent weeks,” Gallardo is quoted as saying.
“The player doesn’t feel loved or supported in the Real Madrid dressing room and that makes him uncomfortable. The transfer fee would be between 200 and 250 million euros.”
Mbappe admits Liverpool talks as question marks arise over Real Madrid future
Although Mbappe has been prolific since his move to Madrid, scoring 94 goals in 111 games, there have been doubts over his ability to play alongside Vinicius Junior, who signed a new long-term contract at the club in August.
Real Madrid are said to have no intention of letting Mbappe leave and the speculation has not been backed up by any credible source, particularly with no movement expected until next summer, if at all.
However, Mbappe revealed last month that he came close to joining Liverpool in 2017 when he was at Monaco, with his mother holding talks with Jurgen Klopp only for the France international to prioritise a move to PSG instead.
“It was while I was playing in Monaco. I had to take a decision. And yes, I was close to Liverpool,” Mbappe told The Athletic. “My mum was a big fan of Jürgen Klopp, and the favourite destination for my mum was Liverpool. She wanted me to go there.
“I didn’t listen because I wanted to play in my city, Paris. I didn’t want to leave my country before I was someone. But yes, my mum was always saying ‘Liverpool — you’re going to be there, playing at Anfield, it’s going to be insane for you.’ I was like, ‘OK!’”
