Dave Portnoy continues bitter war of words with Ohio State coach Ryan Day after being axed by Fox Sports: 'He lost his mind… Michigan broke him'

Barstool boss Dave Portnoy has reignited his feud with Ryan Day, claiming the Ohio State coach has ‘lost his mind’ and is ‘broken’ after losing so many games to Michigan.

Portnoy was speaking just days after it emerged that he and Barstool had been pulled from Fox Sports’ college football pre-game show, Big Noon Kickoff.

The Barstool founder is a big fan of Michigan and he blamed rivals Ohio State – and Day – for his departure from the Fox show after barely a year.

On Monday, Portnoy claimed the Buckeyes were ‘very upset’ from day one of his deal with Big Noon Kickoff, with network executives shown ‘a 30- to 45-minute highlight tape’ of Portnoy ‘ripping’ Day and Ohio State.

‘I think Ryan Day lost his mind,’ he told Front Office Sports, insisting Fox Sports ‘tried to smooth it over’ with the Ohio State head coach.

‘I think Michigan kind of broke him [winning four games in a row from 2021 to 2024], and I know it sounds crazy to say it but I think he lost track of reality.’

Portnoy claims that, when he agreed to appear on Big Noon Kickoff, it was suggested that an interview could be set up with Day.

‘I was like, “I don’t know if he’s gonna sit down [with me],”‘ Portnoy told FOS. ‘I don’t think there was anybody on Earth who could smooth it over with Ryan Day, from what I’ve gathered. This is something that is a core tenet of his — that I’m a major, major headache.’

He added: ‘From Day One they were very unhappy with me being on the air. Any time anyone — not only me — would criticize Ohio State or Ryan Day, they would complain.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to Ohio State for comment.

After news of his exit from Big Noon Kickoff first emerged, Portnoy wrote on X: ‘Ohio State and Ryan Day b****ed and moaned to the Big 10 and threatened Fox till they had no choice.’

He added: ‘Juice [wasn’t] worth the squeeze [and] frankly I [don’t] blame them. Huge dollars at stake and you have Cryin Ryan throwing temper tantrums [and] making threats every few days on something I said.

‘I always knew Ryan Day was soft but holy s*** even I [didn’t] realize he was this soft.’
