Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves posted an image to his Instagram story revealing how close he was to losing a digit on his hand.
Reaves exited Washington’s Week 4 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in London with the injury to his hand/finger but returned to the game later on.
Afterwards, he shared a snap of his left ring finger with multiple stitches where the digit and his hand met.
‘Almost lost 1 [finger],’ Reaves posted. ‘But that’s why God gave us 10.’
Fans on social media reacted with concern and disgust at the gruesome image.
‘Man… football is a battle sport… prayers up man.. that looks nasty…’ wrote one user on X.

Reaves, 30, even returned to the game to play the rest of the loss to the Indianapolis Colts
Another said, ‘i didn’t think the injuries could get worse than last year but gd man.’
‘Damn that’s painful too. I almost lost a finger once. I had 23 stitches in one finger. Extremely painful. Get well soon Reavo,’ wrote another user.
Reaves was an undrafted free agent out of South Alabama in 2018 and blossomed into a full-time starter for the team in 2026.
Last season, he started eight games and logged career-best numbers in total tackles (91), solo tackles (57), assisted tackles (34) and passes defended (seven).
The 30-year-old Reaves is set to earn $3.65 million this season, according to Spotrac.
