Everton Celebrates Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day

Premier League club Everton has joined Nigerians in celebrating the country’s 66th Independence Day.

Nigeria marked 66 years of independence from Britain on October 1, 2026.

To mark the occasion, Everton shared an artwork featuring several Nigerian players who have represented the club and the national teams.

The artwork included former Super Eagles stars Daniel Amokachi, Joseph Yobo, Victor Anichebe, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman and Yakubu Aiyegbeni, as well as Super Falcons star Toni Payne.

The club also used the Nigerian flag alongside its colours while wishing the country a happy Independence Day.

Everton’s tribute attracted reactions from fans and football followers on X, with many recalling the club’s long connection with Nigerian footballers.

The relationship dates back to 1994 when Daniel Amokachi became Everton’s first African player. Since then, several Nigerian talents have gone on to feature for the club.
