Real Madrid are ready to rival Premier League clubs for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah.
The England star had an eventful summer, first playing at the World Cup and then emerging as a late-window target for Arsenal in their search for an injury replacement for William Saliba.
Quansah was open to the move, but Leverkusen weren’t. They rebuffed the Gunners’ approach, with the Premier League champions reportedly offering as much as €65 million for the 23-year-old.
Leverkusen did not want to lose the versatile defender after just one season, especially as there was still a sense of unfinished business. Quansah was solid if unspectacular in his first year in Germany, while Bayer 04 endured a disastrous campaign.
The Bundesliga club felt that, with another season under his belt, Quansah could be worth more than €65m in 2027. For good reason. Liverpool will have to pay €70m next summer if they wish to exercise their buy-back clause, which they must do by 15 June.
Quansah battle heats up
There is a growing consensus that Quansah will be on the move next summer, but it is not guaranteed that he will return to Anfield. It is too early for Liverpool to make a firm decision on whether to bring him back – and the player would have to consent to a comeback.
With his future still very much up in the air, BILD reports that more and more clubs are starting to take an interest in the 23-year-old, who has, as expected, primarily played at right-back this season.
Despite signing Ezri Konsa in Quansah’s stead, Arsenal could return for Quansah next summer, depending on what happens with Ben White. FootballTransfers understands that the club would be willing to hand him a new contract, but he may also leave.
Additionally, Chelsea are said to have started enquiring about the Leverkusen star. Although Blues manager Xabi Alonso left the German club before Quansah arrived in 2025, he may have been involved in the identification process.
Finally, it is claimed that Real Madrid are now also in the mix. The Spanish giants are showing a “strong interest” in Quansah and are producing detailed scouting reports on him, as they are likely to sign two new defenders next summer.
Los Blancos superstar Jude Bellingham is a close friend of Quansah and could put in a good word for the towering defender. At this stage, it remains unclear where the England star will ultimately end up, but a transfer looks almost inevitable.
