Arsenal are reportedly close to finalising a contract extension agreement with club captain Martin Odegaard.
The Norway international has less than two years remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners hierarchy are desperate to tie him down to fresh terms following his excellent start to the new season.
Odegaard has scored four goals in eight games across all competitions so far this campaign, including winners against Chelsea and Napoli, and Mikel Arteta’s side have made strides in their bid to secure his long-term future.
That is according to transfer reporter Nicolo Schira, who posted on X: “Martin Odegaard is getting closer to extend his contract with Arsenal, which consider the captain a key-player and non-transferable. In fact Arsenal have turned down some approaches from Saudi and European top clubs in the last months.”
The 27-year-old’s last contract extension came back in 2023 and while there were rumours suggesting that he could leave the club over the summer, Arsenal had no interest in sanctioning a sale.
It’s understood that Odegaard is keen to commit his future to the Gunners and the club are expected to reach a full agreement shortly as they engage in advanced negotiations.
Declan Rice and Ben White deals close
In addition to Odegaard, Arsenal are also close to agreeing new long-term contracts with Declan Rice and Ben White, FootballTransfers can confirm.
We understand the Gunners hierarchy will use the current September international break to finalise contract details with both England stars as they look to tie their most important players down to fresh terms.
Rice will be rewarded with a substantial salary increase, with sources informing us that he will earn around £280,000 per week on an extremely lucrative five-year contract, while White will also sit down with club officials over a new deal.
White has been heavily linked with an Arsenal exit in recent months, but we can confirm that he will not leave the club in January, with contract talks set to ramp up over the coming week.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Arteta has reached an agreement over a new contract in north London, with an official announcement expected shortly.
