Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Guinea-Bissau ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against the Djurtus on Tuesday.
Eric Chelle’s team travelled from Uyo on Sunday after starting their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Madagascar took the lead in the first half, but Nigeria fought back to secure all three points.
Guinea-Bissau also won their opening match, beating Tanzania 2-0 away from home. Both teams therefore go into Tuesday’s game with three points.
The Super Eagles spent the weekend in Uyo, where they had a recovery session on Saturday before training again on Sunday morning.
They later departed for Bissau at about 3pm Nigerian time and arrived at the Aeroporto Internacional Osvaldo Vieira in the capital at around 8:40pm Nigerian time.
The team is expected to have its only training session in Guinea-Bissau on Monday at the Estadio 24 de Setembro, the venue for Tuesday’s match.
### Chelle Aims To Avoid 2023 Defeat
Nigeria will be hoping to avoid a repeat of their shock 1-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Abuja during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
The Djurtus have shown that they can cause problems for the Super Eagles, with players such as Franculino Djú, Beto and Mama Baldé providing attacking threats.
Chelle will also be looking to continue his impressive record as Super Eagles coach. Nigeria have recorded 18 wins and three draws in his 23 matches in charge.
Tuesday’s match will be another important test for the Super Eagles as they look to maintain their strong start to the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
