Rio Ngumoha drops transfer hint as Arsenal circle

Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha has confirmed that he is “enjoying” life under new boss Andoni Iraola despite reported interest from Premier League champions Arsenal.

The England international, who could make his competitive debut for the Three Lions against Spain on Saturday, has been linked with a possible move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, with Mikel Arteta’s side believed to be huge admirers.

Ngumoha still has two years remaining on his current contract at Anfield, but Arsenal are understood to be tracking his progress and rumours suggest they could make an approach next year if the 18-year-old fails to establish himself as a regular starter under Iraola.

The former Chelsea academy starlet has made five appearances across all competitions for Liverpool so far this season, but he faces strong competition for places from the in-form Cody Gakpo and summer signings Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz.

Liverpool, for what it’s worth, having no interest in losing Ngumoha, with a possible move to Arsenal currently regarded as highly unlikely, despite the Gunners’ well-documented pursuit of a new left winger.

Meanwhile, Ngumoha has confirmed that he is loving life under new boss Iraola, even though he hasn’t started a Premier League match since Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Newcastle United in their opening fixture of the new season.

“The gaffer at Liverpool has really been helpful,” Ngumoha told reporters while on England duty ahead of their upcoming Nations League matches. “And all the coaching staff as well – I can’t speak highly enough of them.

“But I’m enjoying it. I’m playing left wing, right wing as well. So it’s given me another tool to destroy defenders.”

A move to Arsenal, therefore, doesn’t appear to be on Ngumoha’s mind as things stand.

Rio Ngumoha confirms England ambitions

Having been part of England’s training squad ahead of the World Cup, Ngumoha is preparing for his first taste of competitive action for Thomas Tuchel’s side and he is eager to cement his place as a Three Lions regular.

“I’ve just got to come here and show what I can do to everyone and just make sure everyone just understands who I am,” the Liverpool winger added.

“I’m not here just to be like a side part – I want to be a mainstay in the team and hopefully I can stay. But there’s good competition everywhere. So it’s about competing with the best players in the world now.”

Asked about the possibility of being included in England’s squad for a home European Championship in 2028, Ngumoha added: “I’d definitely like to be a part of the squad.

“I think if I just keep doing what I’m doing, whether it’s with the national team or at club level, if I just keep showing who I am and how I play and keep getting goals and assists and helping the team win trophies, then definitely I’d like to be a part of the team and hopefully we can go all the way as well.”
