Jürgen Klopp’s first game in charge of Germany ended in a 1–1 draw against the Netherlands, despite Felix Nmecha giving the visitors an early lead.
Klopp’s Germany made a lively start but struggled to create clear chances in the opening stages. The new coach was also forced to make an early change after Jamal Musiala felt discomfort during the warm-up.
Kai Havertz was later substituted after a challenge from Quinten Timber, with debutant Younes Ebnoutalib replacing him.
Germany took the lead shortly after through Nmecha. Joshua Kimmich released debutant Philipp Treu, whose attempted cutback eventually fell to the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who finished to put Klopp’s side ahead.
Klopp’s team had opportunities to extend their advantage, with Karim Adeyemi missing a good chance before the Netherlands began to take control of the game.
Germany came under increasing pressure after the break, forcing Klopp to make further changes as he introduced several players, including debutant Yannick Engelhardt and Serge Gnabry.
The Netherlands eventually found the equaliser in stoppage time when Cody Gakpo finished from Ruben van Bommel’s assist.
Klopp was therefore denied a winning start as Germany coach, with his first match ending in a hard-fought draw.
