BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier and his family like to keep things casual, according to Heisman Trophy winner and college football analyst Robert Griffin III.
As he explained during the fourth quarter of BYU’s September 12 win over Arizona, Bear and his brother/teammate Tiger occasionally enjoy naked meals with their family members.
‘[Bear] he told us that at the dinners, you know, sometimes they just, they just take the clothes off and they walk around naked,’ Griffin told play-by-play announcer Connor Onion after seeing their mother April in the BYU stands. ‘You naked at your dinners with the family?’
Onion didn’t entertain the question: ‘Do I have to answer that?’
Although the exchange didn’t initially go viral, it has gained traction over the ensuing days as football fans began questioning the bizarre dynamic.
Some misguided trolls ridiculed BYU’s connection to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by inquiring about the garment of the holy priesthood – something followers are required to wear night and day.

The dubious sincerity of those inquiries notwithstanding, the Bachmeier family is devoutly Catholic and the brothers are often seen praying together on the field before games.
But the vast majority of online responses refused to believe the 36-year-old former NFL quarterback’s claim about the Bachmeier family.
‘Ok, everyone,’ one angry fan began, ‘stop being idiots. No one eats dinner as a family nude–no matter how much you wish this was true.’
Others saw the practice as a good way to eat modestly: ‘That’s one way to stay thin.’
Neither Bear nor Tiger, a wide receiver, have addressed the story publicly. The two California-born brothers transferred from Stanford to BYU in 2025. Since then, the Cougars have gone 15-2, including a 3-0 start this season.
Bear has been particularly impressive, completing 71 percent of his passes for 642 yards and six touchdowns over three games.
