Inter Lagos endured three straight defeats to begin their Nigeria Premier Football League campaign. Then came Enyimba.
The newly promoted Inter Lagos side stunned the nine-time champions with a 1-0 victory in Aba, securing their first points of the season. Moses Ezekiel’s 18th-minute goal proved decisive.

The result lifted the mood around the club, but the bigger question is whether Inter Lagos can build on it.
Inter Lagos lost 2-1 away to Shooting Stars, suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Doma United and then fell 3-0 to city rivals Sporting Lagos.
Those results left them bottom of the table after three matches.
However, the victory over Enyimba showed that their poor start may not reflect their ability to compete at NPFL level.
Winning away against one of the league’s most decorated clubs was a major statement.
Inter Lagos will return to action on Wednesday, September 23, when they host Kano Pillars in a Matchday 5 fixture scheduled for 4:00 p.m at Onikan Stadium.
Kano Pillars will arrive with confidence after defeating Doma United 4-1 in their previous match. That result ended Doma’s perfect start to the season.
The fixture therefore presents another demanding test for Inter Lagos. Doma United previously defeated them 1-0, while Kano Pillars have now beaten the same opponent convincingly.
The Enyimba victory has ended Inter Lagos’ search for their first points, but it has not erased the problems of their opening three matches. Consistency is now the priority.
Another strong performance against Kano Pillars would suggest that the newcomers are adapting to top-flight football. A poor result, however, could make the Enyimba victory look like an isolated surprise.
Inter Lagos have changed the conversation with one impressive win.
Wednesday’s match will show whether they have truly changed the direction of their season.
