Former commissioner for sports in Lagos State, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has promised to take his sponsored taekwondo championship to all six geo-political zones in the country.
Sports247 reports that Bamidele gave the assurance at the end of the maiden edition this past weekend in Lagos; which was tagged 1st MOB National Taekwondo Championship
Banidele, who is now Nigeria’s Senate Leader, was beaming with delight, as the inaugural edition came to an end in the sports hall of Lagos National Stadium, Surulere.
The competition, which began on Friday, featured a large number of competitors from various states, clubs and para-military agencies, at the end of which Bamidele promised to keep expanding it annually.
However, while projecting that the championship will be rotated among Nigeria’s geo-political zones in subsequent editions, Bamidele disclosed that Lagos will again host the second edition next year at Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Bamidele assured, “This will not be a one-off event. Rather, it will be annual. This competition will go round the geo-political zones in the country, but the second edition will still be in Lagos.”
Sports247 reports further that Bamidele also commended Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) president, Tayo Popoola and her board for their contributions to the sport and support in organising the championship.
