Barau FC head coach Eugene Agagbe has praised the focus and discipline of his players after they battled Ikorodu City to a 0-0 draw in Lagos, extending their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League season.

Agagbe admitted that Ikorodu City provided a difficult challenge at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, but revealed that Barau travelled to Lagos with a clear objective — win the game if possible, but under no circumstances leave empty-handed.
“I was happy for them. They were focused. Ikorodu are also a good side. They came here with an agenda, and we came here with a strategy,” Agagbe said.
“We said that we pick the three points or we don’t lose the game. We are doing it gradually, gradually, and I know we will surely get there.”
That strategy ultimately earned Barau another valuable point. The visitors also had opportunities to take all three, with Ibrahim Nura hitting the post with a first-half header, while goalkeeper Michael Atata was called upon at the other end as both teams searched for the breakthrough.
More importantly, the result means Barau remain unbeaten after four EuroMatch NPFL matches, having collected eight points from two victories and two draws. They have also taken four points from their two away fixtures without conceding a goal on the road.
For Agagbe, however, there is no need to get carried away by the early numbers.
His message is about progression — “gradually, gradually.”
And that may be the most interesting part of Barau’s early-season story. They are picking up points, building confidence and showing that they can compete away from home.
Four matches into the campaign, Barau are still unbeaten — and Eugene Agagbe believes they are only gradually getting where they want to be.
