Liverpool receive official transfer message over €70m forward

Liverpool have been told that Brighton & Hove Albion may consider selling Yankuba Minteh next year following their failed bid to sign him over the summer.

The Gambia international was earmarked as one of Liverpool’s top right winger targets following the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah to Trabzonspor, but they saw two offers rejected by Brighton, the second of which was worth €70 million, and they were unable to finalise a deal before the end of Deadline Day.

Andoni Iraola’s side pivoted their attention to Crystal Palace attacker Ismaila Sarr after failing to convince Brighton to sell Minteh, but their attempts to land the Senegal star were also in vain and they eventually opted to block the proposed sale of Cody Gakpo to Manchester City.

The Netherlands international has started the 2026-27 campaign in fantastic form, scoring two goals and providing four assists in five games, however Liverpool are still expected to bolster their forward options next year, especially as they don’t currently have an out-and-out right winger in their first-team squad.

Minteh remains on their radar and while he is yet to feature so far this season due to injury, Liverpool could be tempted to test Brighton’s resolve when the January window opens amid their long-standing pursuit of his signature.

The 22-year-old only scored three goals in 34 English top flight games last season, but he is known as one of the most hard-working wingers in the Premier League and his all-action style would likely translate extremely well to Iraola’s high-pressing system.

Yankuba Minteh transfer message

When asked whether he could see Liverpool finalising an agreement with Brighton to sign Minteh in January, former Seagulls striker Bobby Zamora told GOAL: “Possibly.

“Everyone’s different. Everyone reacts differently to these inquiries, these clubs that come in. Some say: ‘Okay, dust it off, let me carry on playing my football’. Others are: ‘I really want to get there, I’ll do anything to get there now’.

“And it depends on the agent, depends on the people that he’s got around him as well. So, everyone’s different but, yeah, Liverpool’s still in need, and he’s very direct. He gets the ball into the box. He would suit them. I do think he would suit them, but Brighton won’t just let somebody go for nothing.

“You’ve seen that they get good value for all of their players that they sell on. So, the number has to be right for Brighton, firstly. And hopefully that number is right. And listen, hopefully he goes, if that’s where he wants to go.

“Brighton have a way of churning out more and more players, and you can see that. Yankuba’s not been there recently, but the lads that have come in have all done a great job.”
