Nigeria-born Austrian international defender, David Olatokunbo Alaba could be on his way to joining the duo of Terem Moffi and Philip Otele at SV Hamburg of Germany, as he seeks a return to the country where he shot into the global limelight with Bayern Munich.
Sports247 reports that Alaba is in the twilight of his career and out of the spotlight in recent years, but the left-footed versatile defender, who last played for Real Madrid of Spain, is thinking of returning to Deutschland.
Should speculation surrounding the 34-year-old Alaba turn out to be true, the dark-skinned star, who was born in Austria to a Nigerian father and a mother from the Philippines, would end up becoming a teammate of the Nigerian duo of Terem and Otele at Hamburg.
Alaba, who is currently a free agent after leaving Real Madrid when his contract expired at the end of last season, has faced several injury issues that limited his game time over the past few seasons, forcing him to get only 47 appearances since 2023.
However, good news is coming his way now, indicating that he could move to Hamburg on a free agency deal anytime this month, which would make him the resurgent club’s latest arrival after Otele moved in on loan from FC Basel of Switzerland, a few weeks after the team bought Moffi from OGC Nice of France.
Sport BILD added, “Alaba could make a sensational return to the Bundesliga to help bolster a struggling Hamburg (who) currently sit rock bottom of the German top flight with three defeats, zero goals scored and 12 conceded (but) financial constraints and the player’s injury record remain road blocks.”
