Sports247 reports that Popoola further disclosed that the competition, which is officially tagged 1st Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) National Taekwondo Championship, has been boosted heavily by the sponsor, who is also a former commissioner for information and strategy.
Popoola added that the championship, which is officially scheduled for this Friday and Saturday in the sports hall of Lagos National Stadium, Surulere, will be preceded by a technical training on Wednesday, to ensure that the competition meets up to international standards.
The NTF president noted that the training is necessary to prepare officials for the high demands of the potentially challenging bouts and ensure that everything about the championship conforms with global best practices, while also revealing the depth of Nigeria’s taekwondo talent.
She expressed satisfaction with the responses from interested participants, which made the NTF keep the registration process open longer to allow more states and clubs join the roster, while adding that the federation is optimistic that they will stage a very successful championship.
Popoola expatiated gleefully, “Because it is the first edition, registration is still ongoing. We are just excited that the responses have been very encouraging and we are optimistic of a very good championship in Lagos.
“What we are doing is to ensure that we stage the event with all aspects in conformity with best practices all over the world. It is the usual practice. So, we will engage them on Wednesday ahead of the event starting on Friday.”
