New Caledonia forward Joceline Kourevi has disclosed that scoring against Nigeria’s Falconet was a source of great pride for her country at the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Kourevi scored a historic consolation goal for New Caledonia in the 89th minute during their 10-1 loss against Nigeria’s Falconets on Sunday.

In a chat with FIFA.com, Kourevi expressed his delight to have scored the -country’s first-ever goal at the tournament.
“This is a source of great pride for the country. I’m very proud too, because it’s a first for me. It’s the first time we’ve been in the World Cup, and we’re a small country as well.
“We’ve managed to qualify for this World Cup, so it’s just a source of great pride for the country too. Thank you to the country for supporting us.”

While the team exits the tournament without a point, Kourevi’s consolation goal successfully fulfilled the pre-match objective set by head coach Leon Waitronyie, who had publicly urged his players to play a little higher up the pitch and try to score a goal against Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the dominant victory propelled Nigeria’s Falconets directly into the Round of 16.
