Alexander Zverev is back in the US Open semifinals after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 in straight sets.
The German top seed has now reached the semifinals at all four Grand Slams in 2026, becoming only the second-oldest player in the Open Era to achieve the feat. He has also reached his 13th Grand Slam semifinal and won 51 matches this season.
Zverev has steadily found his best form in New York after a difficult start to the tournament. He is also the only Grand Slam champion left in the men’s draw after Ben Shelton eliminated Carlos Alcaraz.
“I don’t take it for granted at all. I know it can change in a heartbeat in tennis.”
Zverev will face Karen Khachanov in the semifinals. The Russian reached the last four after Alexander Blockx retired while trailing 6-2, 7-5, 3-2. Zverev leads their head-to-head 6-3.
The other semifinal will be an all-American battle between Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe, meaning the 2026 US Open men’s champion will be one of these four: Zverev, Khachanov, Shelton or Tiafoe.
