After putting in a trade request following his team’s failure to put forth a contract extension in time, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers star has re-signed with the squad.
Defensive tackle Vita Vea will stay in southwest Florida for at least one more season.
On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Vea inked a one-year extension for $30million, with the money fully guaranteed.
The deal โ which, when combined with his current salary, will see him paid $48m in the next two years โ will keep Vea in Tampa through the 2027 season.
Vea demanded a trade earlier this summer as he entered the final year of his current contract.
While in Tampa Bay, Vea has established himself as one of the top interior defensive linemen in the game.

Vea previously demanded a trade after he didn’t agree to a deal before training camp

Now, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield is the organization’s biggest contract question
The Super Bowl LV champion has racked up over 250 tackles in his career as well as 35 career sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
However, at age 31, the timing was awkward to try and get him a new deal despite his high level of production.ย
But the short-term deal grants the defensive tackle some extra security as his career approaches its late stages.
Vea will be free to sign another deal after the 2027 season if he so chooses.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers need to make a decision on the future of quarterback Baker Mayfield in the offseason.
Mayfield previously gave the Bucs a hard deadline of the beginning of training camp to come to an agreement on a contract extension.
After that deadline passed without a deal, Mayfield’s future is up for debate.
