Viktor Gyokeres has allegedly offered himself to Barcelona in the hopes of leaving Arsenal this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Gyokeres only joined Arsenal last summer and was the club’s top scorer but, despite helping Mikel Arteta’s side win the Premier League, question marks have continued to persist over the 28-year-old.
Arteta is keen to bring in a new forward this summer and ideally one who can play up front as well as on the left wing, which would only limit Gyokeres’ game time next season.
Despite his goal output, Gyokeres has failed to convince some at Arsenal of his credentials, having largely been seen as a streaky poacher as opposed to a forward that transforms the team’s attacking unit.
Arsenal are believed to be eyeing players such as Kenan Yildiz, Julian Alvarez or Victor Osimhen to upgrade their squad and, with Kai Havertz also often used ahead of Gyokeres, the Swedish forward could find himself on the bench regularly in the coming season.
The situation has allegedly led to Gyokeres’ representatives exploring their options, with Barcelona emerging as a potential destination as the Catalans look to resolve their own attacking conundrum.
Viktor Gyokeres: Arsenal star ready to make Barcelona switch
Spanish outlet COPE report that Gyokeres’ agent is pushing to have a meeting with Barcelona sporting director Deco due to the player’s ‘desire’ to leave Arsenal this summer.
Barca had not considered Gyokeres as an option but the striker’s desire for a move could make the situation more ‘active’, with the La Liga side’s top targets proving unattainable.
Atletico Madrid are continuing their hardline stance of not allowing Alvarez to join Barcelona, which has led to Lautaro Martinez being considered the new first choice, although Inter are also adamant that they will not sell their star striker.
Club Brugge youngster Nicolo Tresoldi is also named as an option, although he is not considered a priority, and a move for Gyokeres could develop if Arsenal make progress on their own attacking signing.
