New York Giants land Pro Bowl running back less than a year after he tore his Achilles

The New York Giants are adding running back Najee Harris to their roster on a one-year deal, according to reports.

The 28-year-old, a former first-round draft pick, is coming back from an Achilles tear that ended his 2025 season after just three weeks.

He suffered the brutal injury shortly after joining the Los Angeles Chargers and now, less than a year later, he has been picked up by the Giants. The move was first reported by NFL Network and ESPN.

Following a workout for the Giants on Monday, Harris is now part of a New York running back room led by Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr

Earlier this week, John Harbaugh insisted Harris is still not 100 per cent healthy but the Giants head coach highlighted the running back’s experience as a weapon.

‘He looked good in the workout… he’s not in football shape yet. So, if we are able to do something, it’ll be a process. But that would be a guy that has got a lot of experience. He’s a decorated vet,’ Harbaugh said.

‘And with those guys, generally, you just have to kind of see where they’re at when you get them. And sometimes it works out great.

‘Sometimes it’s just OK, and other times it doesn’t work out. But based on the workout, I would say we feel like he’s got a shot.’

The Giants also have Devin Singletary, Eric Gray and undrafted rookie Damon Bankston as backfield options but Dante Miller was waived after suffering an injury.

Harris spent the early part of last season playing under Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, with the Chargers. Before that, he was with the Steelers, making the Pro Bowl as a rookie and rushing for more than 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons in Pittsburgh.
