A serious alleged incident involving several Sydney Swans players is being investigated at the Pullman East Melbourne.
‘The Sydney Swans can confirm several players were involved in an alleged incident in Melbourne last night,’ a Sydney Swans spokesperson said.
‘The Swans have notified the AFL and relevant authorities and cannot provide further comment at this stage.’
The team was staying at the hotel after beating Essendon at the MCG on Sunday evening.
‘Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault in East Melbourne on 17 August,’ a police spokesperson said.
‘The incident occurred at a hotel on Wellington Parade in the early hours of the morning.
‘The exact circumstances are yet to be established and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.’
A source said claims of a sexual or violent assault had surfaced, although the Herald Sun was yet to verify them.
The Swans were staying at the hotel following Sunday evening’s victory over Essendon at the MCG.
Up to eight uniformed and plain-clothes officers were seen inside with clipboards and camera equipment, while others guarded the main staircase and several marked and unmarked police vehicles remained outside.
