Sydney Swans coach Dean Cox has broken his silence to express bitter disappointment after several players were caught up in an alleged sexual assault days out from the AFL finals.
Victoria Police attended Melbourne’s Pullman Hotel on Monday morning to investigate reports of sexual assault.
The Swans were staying at the hotel after their 36-point win over Essendon at the MCG on Sunday.
Officers spoke to Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Riley Bice, James Jordon and a fifth unnamed player before they return to Sydney. No charges have been laid.
Daily Mail does not suggest any of the players are under investigation or involved in any wrongdoing, just that they spoke to police about the alleged incident.
Cox was grilled by television reporters as he arrived at Swans headquarters in Moore Park for club crisis talks shortly after 7am on Tuesday.
‘Yeah, obviously extremely disappointed with what’s happened and I understand the questions,’ he said.
‘We’ll update as we as we gather more information.’

Club officials will discuss whether the players will be stood down for this Sunday’s final round clash against North Melbourne – sanctions which could extend into the final series.
