The countdown is almost over as the 2026 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Nationwide Competition prepares to get underway in Aba, Abia State, with 12 clubs from across Nigeria set to battle for promotion to the 2027 NWFL Championship.
Sports247 reports that the competition is scheduled to run from August 15 to 23, 2026, providing an important platform for emerging women’s football clubs and players seeking to move up the Nigerian women’s football pyramid.
Although the participating teams will officially converge in Aba from Saturday, August 15, competitive action will begin on Sunday, August 16, with four opening-day fixtures scheduled across the four groups.
In Group A, Solo Wonders Babes FC will face Spunky Blazers FA in what promises to be an intriguing opening encounter. Both sides will be looking to start their campaign positively and immediately put themselves in contention for progression.
Group B will see hosts C2E Sports Academy take on Bayelsa Princesses FC, with the home side expected to draw motivation from playing in familiar surroundings.
In Group C, Onimarg FC will battle NAF Queens FC, while Plateau United Queens FC will begin their campaign against Obosa Football Academy in the opening Group D fixture.
