Manchester United have done a good job clearing out their deadwood, but there are still some players Michael Carrick would like to offload before the end of the window.
The Red Devils have had a strange summer so far. They have, on the whole, achieved what they set out to do – strengthen the midfield – but not in the way anyone expected. Due to their reluctance to overpay for players, Man Utd have missed out on several key targets.
Instead of signing the likes of Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, they have added the significantly cheaper Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. They still want to bring in a third midfielder, but it is proving to be a difficult market due to a lack of suitable options.
On the outgoing front, there will probably not be too much business in the final weeks of the window as they need depth ahead of their return to the Champions League, but there are nevertheless some players who could be on the move before Deadline Day.
Dan Gore
Young midfielder Dan Gore enjoyed a very promising loan spell at Rotherham United in League One last season, but at 21, the ship for him to nail down a spot as a senior Man Utd player may have sailed.
The combative midfielder could struggle for minutes at Man Utd if they sign another player for the engine room, and there is surely interest from the Championship and perhaps even the Premier League after his successful 2025/26 season.
Toby Collyer
Toby Collyer is in the same boat as Gore, though he will not be looking back fondly at the previous campaign. The 22-year-old struggled at West Brom and Hull City in the Championship.
Unsurprisingly, then, reports have claimed that Man Utd have informed the player that they are ready to sell him. Collyer has become surplus to requirements and is surely on the way out. There is no shortage of interest in him from the English second tier.
Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford’s crazy summer has had plenty of twists and turns. It initially seemed as though Barcelona would be keen to make his loan permanent, but the Catalans were ultimately unwilling to trigger his €30 million purchase option.
They have since signed Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, which suggests that they won’t return for Rashford this summer. This is a problem for Man Utd, who have been trying to rid themselves of his hefty wages for more than a year.
With the winger unwilling to join another Premier League team, there is a concrete chance of him staying put, although Man Utd will remain open to offers until the window slams shut.
Chido Obi
Talented young striker Chido Obi received a few first-team chances in Ruben Amorim’s first half-season at Man Utd, but he became a forgotten man in 2025/26 as he primarily featured in the youth setup.
This caused major consternation in his native Denmark because he is seen as the future of the national team, and numerous pundits urged him to leave Man Utd on loan to have a realistic chance of being called up.
It seems that the Red Devils will now grant him the opportunity to get regular minutes elsewhere, with reports suggesting that the plan is for Obi to be loaned out before the deadline.
Joshua Zirkzee
One of the most disappointing signings in recent Man Utd history – and that’s saying a lot – Joshua Zirkzee has to leave the club this summer, surely. The Netherlands international bizarrely agreed to stay put in January, and doomed his World Cup dream in the process.
The former Bologna man has been courted by numerous Serie A clubs over the past 18 months, and it is currently Juventus who are believed to be in concrete talks over a deal for the versatile forward.
Having seen his career not just stagnate but actively regress over the past two years, anything other than a departure from Man Utd would be mind-boggling this summer.
