Sharp disagreements have erupted between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, regarding the proposed roadmap for post-war governance in the Gaza Strip, Israel’s Channel 14 reported on Monday.
According to the report, discussions between the two sides have grown increasingly tense in recent days, with Kushner directly accusing Netanyahu of placing obstacles to implementing the US-backed plan, which is being developed in coordination with regional and international partners.
Proponents of the plan maintain that its success requires immediate practical steps to transition to a new phase in Gaza, while Netanyahu insists on strict security conditions before agreeing to any political or administrative arrangements, Channel 14 noted.
The report added that during ongoing consultations, Netanyahu informed Kushner that Israel will not approve any formula for managing or restructuring the Gaza Strip until its primary objective, the complete demilitarisation of the Strip, is met. Israel insists that Gaza’s demilitarisation requires the full surrender and removal of all weaponry and military infrastructure held by Palestinian factions there.
The rift highlights a gap between the political approach pushing for swift post-war arrangements and the Israeli stance, which conditions any progress on the full achievement of security guarantees on the ground.
While international actors seek to establish a framework for governance and reconstruction in Gaza, the Israeli government continues to insist that security guarantees must take precedence over all other arrangements.
