Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega has expressed her disappointment over Nigeria’s 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, revealing that she was prepared to enter the game and provide the experience the team needed during its difficult spell.

Nigeria created several opportunities in the Casablanca encounter but failed to find an equaliser after Cameroon took the lead through Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen’s 19th-minute free-kick.
Despite sustained pressure from the Super Falcons, the Indomitable Lionesses remained resolute to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Ordega, one of the most experienced players in the Nigerian squad, said she had expected to be called upon as the team searched for a way through Cameroon’s defensive structure.
“I was expecting the coach to bring me on because the team needed experience at that point. I felt I could have helped us find a way through,” Ordega said.
The forward admitted that watching from the sidelines as Nigeria struggled to convert its chances was particularly difficult.
She believes her experience in high-pressure international matches could have been useful during the closing stages, when the Super Falcons were searching desperately for an equaliser.
Nigeria’s elimination means the defending champions will not retain their continental title and have also missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
However, the Super Falcons still have an opportunity to reach the World Cup through the CAF play-off route. Nigeria will face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on Thursday, August 13, in a crucial encounter that will determine who advances in the World Cup qualification pathway.
For Ordega, the immediate priority is now to learn from the painful defeat and ensure Nigeria remains united ahead of the next challenge.
The veteran forward has been part of Nigeria’s senior setup for many years and brings extensive experience from major international tournaments, making her one of the squad’s most experienced figures.
With Nigeria’s World Cup hopes still alive, Ordega and her teammates must now quickly turn their attention to South Africa and fight for another opportunity to keep the Super Falcons’ World Cup dream alive.
