Nigeria Cup Golf 2026 Is Born Of Legacy For Greatness, Says LOC Chairman Olorogun Mohammed Oyibo

As the 29th Nigeria Cup Golf tournament draws nearer, chairman of the competition’s organising committee, Olorogun Mohammed Oyibo says it is an event ‘born of legacy and built for greatness,’ while also affirming that this year’s edition will be a very significant milestone in its history.

Sports247 reports that Oyibo asserted further that the competition, which is also known as Independence Celebration Golf Championship, is Nigeria’s longest-running golf event and this year’s edition will celebrate its rich heritage.

While confirming that the 29th Nigeria Cup Golf will hold at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos, from September 19th to 27th, Oyibo added that the competition will be boosted with improvements in standard organisation and quality of play by all participants.

As preparations gather momentum for the prestigious competition, which will be organised by Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association (IGCNA) in collaboration with Ikoyi Club 1938, Oyibo added that it will build on nearly three decades of tradition.

He further disclosed that the organising committee is already looking into management, hospitality, sponsorship, media, branding, logistics and welfare services to ensure a successful championship, while also introducing improvements in participant experience and stakeholder engagement.

He urged corporate bodies, parastatals, organisations, institutions and individuals to support the championship, while pointing out that sponsors can key into a huge opportunity to contribute towards a historic manifestation in one of Nigeria’s most prestigious sporting events.

The organising committee chairman added: “The Nigeria Cup Golf 2026 is born of legacy and built for greatness. We are not simply organising another Championship, we are building upon a legacy that has inspired generations of golfers.

“We want every participant, every partner and every guest to leave believing they have experienced the finest celebration of golf and fellowship in Nigeria. Our partners are investing in far more than a golf championship.

“They are aligning their brands with a legacy that celebrates excellence, leadership and national pride. Together, we have the opportunity to create an experience that will endure long after the final putt is made.

“While strengthening one of Nigeria’s most enduring sporting traditions, our responsibility is to deliver a championship that honours our history, setting new standards of excellence in competition, organisation and hospitality.”
