Alex Scott is fully focused on performing for Bournemouth despite significant transfer interest from Chelsea, according to team-mate James Hill.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a key transfer target for Xabi Alonso’s side in recent weeks and they have already seen an opening bid worth €75 million rejected by Bournemouth.
It’s understood that Bournemouth have no interest in selling Scott before the end of the summer transfer window, but the England midfielder has turned down multiple contract extension offers from the Cherries and he is reportedly eager to move to Stamford Bridge.
However, transfer speculation hasn’t impacted his quality in pre-season training, according to Hill.
“I think obviously it is massive, obviously keeping hold of these incredible football players going into this season because this season will take their quality as well,” Hill told the Daily Echo ahead of Bournemouth’s friendly against Genoa on Tuesday.
“It’s going to take everyone’s quality to be another successful season, and yeah, you wouldn’t really notice those things are actually happening from the way these boys have trained.
“Alex, obviously [Eli Junior] Kroupi, they’ve been absolutely amazing in training. Their only focus at the moment is Bournemouth.
“They’re so focused on wanting to achieve more things with this football club going into this new season, and the way they’ve trained and the way they’ve been with the lads, you can only see excitement from them coming into this new season.
“But yeah, at the moment I’m pretty sure that their focus is on where they’re at right now and they’re just continuing going on as they are.”
Analysis: Why do Chelsea want to sign Alex Scott?
Scott was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League last season and while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €41.9m suggests that Bournemouth are demanding a ridiculous fee, the Cherries are well within the right to block a sale unless a huge offer is submitted.
The Englishman, who is likely to establish himself as a regular in the national team set-up over the coming years, possesses excellent close control, he consistently looks to play forward when possible and his defensive nous is also immense.
Scott is an all-round number eight and his composure in possession is undoubtedly a key reason behind Chelsea’s interest.
However, thanks to the signing of Valentin Barco and the imminent arrival of Jordan Henderson, a deal is extremely unlikely to happen unless Chelsea sanction the sale of Enzo Fernandez before the end of the summer transfer window on 1 September.
